In the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, Ireland and Scotland have qualified thanks to successful performances in the Europe Region Qualifier on Thursday. Ireland advanced because of a washout against Germany, but hosts Scotland defeated Denmark by 33 runs to lock up their spot in the tournament for the following year.

Ireland captain Paul Stirling remarked, “While it’s true we’d rather have achieved qualification on the pitch today, we’re delighted to have achieved our primary objective of qualifying for next year’s T20 World Cup.” “We had a certain game plan and approach we intended to use in Scotland, and I believe we succeeded in doing so.

“So we’ll celebrate the job well done this afternoon, but there’s a trophy on the line tomorrow, and we’re eager to keep that winning streak going into the India T20 series next month.”

Scotland’s triumph over Denmark takes it five wins in a row in the Europe Region Qualifier. This run has also propelled them to the top of the tournament’s points table. However, if Denmark had defeated Scotland, Italy would have had a chance to compete in the T20 World Cup next year, as they would have been the only other team capable of matching Scotland’s points total if they had defeated both Austria and Germany in their remaining games. Meanwhile, Ireland had won all four of their games before their match against Germany was washed out.

Because of their participation in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, Ireland and Scotland received automatic access into the Europe Region Qualifier. Germany and Jersey qualified for the Qualifier by competing in the 2022 global qualifiers, while Austria, Denmark, and Italy qualified by winning their respective sub-regional qualifiers.

The West Indies and the United States will co-host the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will include 20 teams. For the first round, the teams will be divided into four groups of five, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the Super 8 round. The Super 8 teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each group progressing to the semi-finals.

Before the regional qualifiers, twelve teams have already qualified for the next T20 World Cup. The top eight teams at the 2022 T20 World Cup are Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, as well as Afghanistan and Bangladesh, which qualified based on T20I rankings.

The East Asia Pacific Qualifier is presently taking place in Papua New Guinea, with the hosts leading the four-team standings. The top team from this tournament will advance to the T20 World Cup. Qualifiers for the Americas (for one World Cup spot), Africa (two spaces), and Asia (two spots) will also be held in the coming months.
