The International Cricket Council (ICC) is pleased to announce its satisfaction with the decision by the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics organizing committee (LA28) to recommend the inclusion of cricket in the forthcoming Games.
Following an exhaustive two-year collaborative effort between the ICC and LA28, cricket has been added to the list of sports proposed for inclusion in the LA Olympics. This pivotal development will now undergo scrutiny and approval by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Greg Barclay, Chairman of the ICC, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We welcome LA28’s recommendation to include cricket in the Olympics. While this marks a significant milestone, it is imperative to acknowledge that the final decision is pending. Nonetheless, this brings us one step closer to witnessing cricket’s presence in the Olympics, a prospect unseen for over a century.”
Mr. Barclay extended his gratitude to LA28 for their steadfast support during the rigorous evaluation process of this new sport category over the past two years. The final determination regarding cricket’s inclusion will be made during the IOC Session, strategically scheduled to coincide with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week in India.
