In a thrilling second T20I at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, England chased down Australia’s total of 193 to win by three wickets with six balls to spare, leveling the three-match series 1-1. England’s victory was powered by Liam Livingstone, who delivered a match-winning all-round performance, scoring 87 off 47 balls and taking 2/16 in his bowling spell, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Australia, batting first after England won the toss and chose to field, posted a competitive 193/6 in their 20 overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk top-scored with 50 off 31 balls, while Travis Head (31 off 14) and Josh Inglis (42 off 26) provided solid contributions. Despite losing wickets at key moments, Australia kept their scoring rate high, with Aaron Hardie adding a crucial unbeaten 20 off 9 balls towards the end.

England’s bowlers struggled for control early on, but Liam Livingstone’s spin (2/16) and Brydon Carse (2/26) helped pull things back for the home side. Reece Topley and Sam Curran were expensive, conceding runs at over 12 an over, but Livingstone’s breakthroughs slowed Australia’s momentum.

In response, England’s chase got off to a quick start despite early losses. Phil Salt anchored the top order with 39 off 23, but it was Livingstone who took control of the innings with a blistering 87, smashing six fours and five sixes. Jacob Bethell provided valuable support, scoring 44 off 24, as the pair put England in a strong position. Though Matthew Short’s five-wicket haul (5/22) kept Australia in the game, England held their nerve to seal the victory with six balls to spare.

The series is now tied 1-1, setting up an exciting decider in Manchester.
