Afghanistan cause another ODI World Cup upset, stun Pakistan by 8 wickets

In the match of the ICC Cricket World Cup on October 23, 2023, at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Afghanistan put on a stellar performance to secure a resounding victory.

Pakistan, having won the toss, opted to bat first and managed to set a target of 282/7 in their allotted 50 overs, with Abdullah Shafique leading the charge with 58 runs, and Babar Azam contributing 74. Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad was a standout bowler, claiming 3 crucial wickets for just 49 runs.

In response, Afghanistan’s batsmen excelled, with Ibrahim Zadran being named the Player of the Match for his 87 runs. They comfortably chased down the target, finishing at 286/2 in 49 overs, winning by 8 wickets.
