World champion Mahuchikh wins first high hump tournament of 2024 with a season record

Ukraine’s high jump world champion, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, won the World Athletics Indoor Tour competition in Cottbus, Germany.

Mahuchikh skipped the first four heights and began her event at the height of 1.90 meters, which she cleared on her first try. Then she proceeded to 1.94 meters, with just a single competitor remaining – Germany’s Imke Onnen.

Mahuchikh conquered 1.96 meters on the first attempt after that, and Onnen moved to 1.98 meters and failed all three attempts.

After winning the competition, Ukraine’s world champion cleared 2.04 meters to set the season record. It was the third best jump of her career.

Mahuchikh’s personal record is 2.06 meters, which she set in February 2021.

Mahuchikh has spoken against the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international sports competitions.
